Chieftains
Meet the past and present chieftains.

Committee...
St. Ronan’s Piping Society was formed in April 2002 and became a registered Scottish Charity in May of the same year. Forming the society allowed us to bring to fruition a dream held by many in the small borders town of Innerleithen, that of hosting a Pipe Band Championships. This competition, held in association with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Lothian & Borders Branch, has proven a great success.

St. Ronan’s Piping Society is run by the following people. To e-mail any of the people click the mail link on their name. We have also compiled a profile of past Chieftains and their profiles and speeches which can be found
here.

Committee Meeting Notes and Piping Society Documentation can be found

Chairman Bruce Hamilton

President

President - Bruce Hamilton

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself, My name is Bruce Hamilton and I am President of St. Ronan’s Piping Society, for my sins! As you will have seen from our Welcome page the Society was formed in April 2002 after a public meeting and a Committee formed there and then.

I have been involved in Pipe Bands since the age of 12 starting on the chanter being taught by my Grandfather Willie Bruce and Sandy Euman. I then decided to try the Tenor drum and was taught this by Charles Gray Snr and continued to play the Tenor Drum until I joint the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards as a Junior Piper, where I done a solid year and a half at the Scottish Division School of Music, Piping School stationed at Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh which I continued to do until 1988 when, I transferred to 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and formed a Pipe Band with them, which is still going strong, now under the command of Pipe Major Ian Hutton.

Being a Founder member of The Piping Society you find it interesting, especially when your colleagues and members are so fast at proposing each other for office.  I must admit, I do enjoy the work that I do for the Society and it gives me the opportunity to put something back into the town.  We have already started making preparations for next years championships, and look forward to meeting or hearing from you in the not to distant future.
